What is SPF?
Sender Policy Framework (SPF) is an email validation system designed to protect against email spoofing and spam. It ensures that emails are sent only from authorized servers, reducing the likelihood of fraudulent emails.
Why is SPF important?
Spammers often forge the "From" email address, making it appear as though the email comes from trusted sources like your bank or even your own email address. SPF helps combat this by allowing ISPs and webmail servers (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo) to verify whether an incoming email is sent from a server authorized by the sender’s domain.
How it works:
ISPs check the sending server's IP address against the domain’s SPF DNS record.
- If the server is authorized, the email is accepted.
- If it is not authorized, the email is flagged as spam.
How to setup an SPF record with Mailjet.
To set Mailjet as an authorized sender for your domain:
-
Update your SPF record:
Customize your domain’s DNS records to include Mailjet. For detailed steps, refer to our guide: SPF & DKIM Authentication Guide.
-
Avoid free webmail accounts:
SPF and DKIM cannot be configured for free webmail accounts like Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail. To improve deliverability and security, use an email address linked to your website domain instead. Learn more about why free webmail accounts are discouraged as sender addresses.
