A subaccount is an account nested under your primary Mailjet account, associated with an API key. It allows you to separate email sending use cases while remaining accessible through the same login as your primary account. By default, each Mailjet account includes one primary account with the ability to create one subaccount.
Using subaccounts, you can separate your email send by use case—such as marketing and transactional emails. This helps improve deliverability and streamline reporting. Subaccounts also help minimize the overall impact of potential issues by containing them within the affected subaccount.
For example, if a subaccount’s sender reputation declines, the deliverability of your transactional emails in another subaccount will remain unaffected.
When working with multiple subaccounts, it’s essential to understand that each subaccount operates as a completely separate account under your primary Mailjet account. Resources tied to one subaccount are not shared with or accessible by other subaccounts, ensuring data security and integrity. Data and assets cannot be shared between accounts, including contact lists, segmentation, sending domains, email campaigns, stats, or templates.

Recommended best practices for Subaccounts
- Separate marketing and transactional emails: Use one subaccount for transactional emails and another for marketing campaigns. This ensures that issues affecting one subaccount (e.g., sending rate limits or abuse complaints) do not impact the other.
- Leverage account sharing and permission management: Assign specific subaccounts to individual team members or collaborators through account sharing. This ensures secure and targeted access to the content they are responsible for.
Plan limitations for Subaccounts
- Free and Essential plans: Limited to one subaccount.
- Premium plans: Allow up to 20 subaccounts.
- Custom subscriptions: Allow for a custom number of subaccounts.
If you need more than the default subaccounts provided, please contact Mailjet Support. Requests for additional subaccounts beyond the first two must be reviewed and approved by our Compliance Team. This process includes completing a questionnaire provided via a support ticket.
