SSL and TLS are encryption protocols designed to ensure fully secure communication for all data exchanged over the internet. Widely used to protect online interactions, these protocols are critical in safeguarding information and preventing unauthorized access or tampering.
SSL
SSL stands for "Secure Socket Layer." It is an encryption protocol that provides privacy for communications over the internet, allowing Mailjet to securely transmit data and prevent tampering or data falsification. With SSL, Mailjet ensures that your information remains private and protected during transactions. While Mailjet's standard password protection keeps your data secure, SSL provides an additional layer of security during transmission.
TLS
TLS, short for "Transport Layer Security," is an advanced protocol that provides secure communication and privacy between applications and their users over the internet. TLS prevents third parties from tampering with or falsifying data, and it is commonly used to secure email communication.
TLS consists of two main components:
- TLS Record Protocol: This layer provides a secure connection by using encryption methods, such as the Data Encryption Standard (DES). It can also be used without encryption, depending on the desired level of security.
- TLS Handshake Protocol: This layer enables the server and client to authenticate each other, agree on encryption algorithms, and exchange cryptographic keys before data transmission.
⚠️ Important Notification: Deprecation of TLS 1.0 and 1.1 Protocols
Support for TLS 1.0 and 1.1 in API connections has already been discontinued as of October 30, 2024. If your systems have not yet been updated to TLS 1.2 or higher, your API integrations may no longer function.
Additionally, starting March 31, 2025, connections to our SMTP servers using TLS 1.0 or 1.1 will no longer be supported. To ensure uninterrupted email delivery and secure communication, please update your systems to use TLS 1.2 or higher as soon as possible.
If you’re uncertain about your current configuration, reach out to your technical team or service provider to confirm compatibility with the updated security standards.
By using SSL and TLS, Mailjet ensures that all communications remain private, secure, and free from tampering or unauthorized access, meeting the highest standards of internet security.
