The Mailjet Free plan allows you to create, manage, and send emails without a subscription fee. It includes a monthly email allowance, a daily sending limit, and a maximum number of contacts you can store in your account.
Understanding these limits will help you manage your contacts, plan your campaigns, and avoid interruptions to your email sending.
Free plan limits
The following limits apply to all Mailjet Free accounts:
| Limit | Free plan allowance |
|---|---|
| Monthly email sending | 6,000 emails |
| Daily email sending | 200 emails |
| Stored contacts | 1,000 contacts |
| Template downloads | Not available |
With the Free plan, you can send up to 200 emails per calendar day.
If you exceed this limit, additional emails are placed in a queue and sent when sending capacity becomes available, typically the following day.
However, queued emails are retained for a maximum of 3 days. Any emails that remain unsent after this period are permanently removed from the queue and will not be delivered.
Sending campaigns to more than 200 recipients
When using Mailjet's Email Editor on the Free plan, you can send a campaign to a maximum of 200 email addresses.
To stay within this limit, you can create contact lists containing up to 200 contacts each and send your campaigns to these lists separately, while respecting your daily sending allowance.
If you need to send a campaign to more than 200 recipients at once, you will need to upgrade to a paid plan that does not have a daily sending limit.
In addition to the daily limit, the Free plan includes 6,000 emails per month.
Your daily and monthly limits apply together. Even if you have emails remaining in your monthly allowance, you cannot send more than 200 emails in a single day.
If you need to regularly send larger volumes, consider upgrading to a paid plan with a higher monthly email allowance and no daily sending limit.
Free accounts can store up to 1,000 contacts. This limit applies to the total number of contacts stored in your account, not just the recipients of an individual campaign or the contacts in a particular list.
All stored contacts count toward the limit, including contacts on your campaign exclusion list .
You can monitor your contact usage directly from your Mailjet dashboard, where a contact counter displays your total number of contacts against the 1,000-contact limit.
What happens if you exceed 1,000 contacts?
If your account exceeds the contact limit, a sending hold is automatically applied.
While the sending hold is active:
- You cannot send campaigns. The Send Now option will not be available.
- Scheduled campaigns will not be sent on their scheduled date if the hold is still active.
- You can still create and schedule campaigns, but sending remains restricted until the hold is lifted.
- You can continue creating forms and collecting contacts, although you will not be able to send campaigns while the restriction remains active.
For example, if your primary account has 600 contacts and your subaccount has 400, you have reached the 1,000-contact limit.
How to remove a sending hold caused by the contact limit
If your Free account has been placed on hold because you exceeded the contact limit, you have two options to restore sending:
Review your stored contacts and remove those you no longer need.
- Log in to your Mailjet account.
- Open the All Contacts section.
- Review your contacts and identify those you want to delete.
- Delete the selected contacts individually or use the bulk deletion options.
- Make sure your total contact count is 1,000 or fewer.
For detailed instructions, see How to delete one or multiple contacts?
If you need to keep more than 1,000 contacts, you can upgrade to a paid plan with a higher contact allowance.
- Starter: Store up to 2,000 contacts, send up to 8,000 emails per month, and benefit from no daily sending limit.
- Essential: Store unlimited contacts and choose a higher monthly email allowance, without a daily sending limit.
- Premium and Custom: Store unlimited contacts and access additional features and sending capacity based on your subscription.
Upgrades take effect immediately once completed. Your new plan's sending and contact allowances will then apply.

Can I download templates on the Free plan?
The Free plan allows you to create, customize, save, and use email templates within Mailjet. However, downloading templates as HTML or MJML files is not available on Free or Starter plans.
For more information about creating and managing your templates, see Template Management .
